They thought I was offended

I got released from my calling yesterday. I had been leading the Elder's Quorum for awhile now, and the stake decided to combine our two quorums into one, leaving me happily released. Janalyn is home sick, so I've got Maya in priesthood meeting. The Stake Pres. gets up and starts talking about how this is going to be a really good thing and yada yada yada. Maya's playing with a book on my lap and I'm mostly paying attention. She starts squirming so I put her down to play on the floor. By now they've released me and are calling the new president, who is none other than the president of the other quorum.

Immediately after he's sustained, Maya stumbles and hits her head on the wall and starts screaming bloody murder. Not wanting to interrupt the setting apart, I take her out of the room to calm down in the hall. She's still a little mad, so I just keep her in the hall for the rest of the meeting.

As the rest of the guys get out of priesthood, I start heading back in to get my scriptures and stuff that I left. Who should I meet coming out of the room but the entire stake presidency, who take me aside and start telling me what a good job I did and yada yada yada. It finally comes out that they thought I had been offended because they had retained president of the other quorum and released me! Meanwhile my kid had hit her head and I was merely rushing her out as to not disrupt the meeting. In reality I'm feeling bad for the poor sucker who now has a quorum of 80 people to deal with!

If it had been Florida, I'd have probably never gone back to church.
