The Curse of Cedar City
This entry is a reminder to Rum and Wats of our attempted Vegas vacation and a warning to those who dare venture through Cedar City.
For those who didn't know, Rum, Chris and I decided on a weekend in Vegas during one winter season. Driving down in Rum's Eclipse we encountered numerous snow storms and snow covered roads. Car's were off the road all over the place, but the Eclipse continued on. After passing the main Cedar City exit, an attempt was made to pass a semi. All I can remember is hearing "oooohh Sh!$", a few spins and hits on the guard rails and coming to a stop on the shoulder facing oncoming traffic. The car was filled with smoke from the air bags and I was thinking, "If Wat's is hurt, I'm screwed, I'm trapped in the back seat." The Vegas trip was ruined and so was the Eclipse.
Each time I pass through the area of incident I remember the words from the cop at the scene, "You know about 5 more miles and you would've dropped out of the snow and had clear roads all the way to Vegas." Last weekend I was coming home from St. George. When I came upon the same area in Cedar City. 2 cars were off the road on the median and shoulder.
The curse had struck again.

I learned a valuable lesson that day. Making good time is not as important as simply getting there.
My favorite part of the story was the drive back in the crippled Eclipse. We stopped in Fairview (I think) to get gas and some guy tells me that the hood isn't closed all the way. Little did he know that the hood was in fact closed it was the rest of the car that was all screwed up. I guess he couldn't see the broken windsheild, blown airbags and holes in the bumbers.
My favorite memory from that trip was somebody asking Rum
"Hey man, are we going a little fast?"
and Rum responding
"Are you kidding me? I'm from Blackfoot. This storm is nothing."
In hindsight that was a pretty fun trip.
